LAHORE, March 1: Noted writer Fakhar Zaman has said the present establishment is anti to the languages spoken in Pakistan, and it wants to impose only Urdu language.
He said this while presiding over a book launch titled ‘G M Syed: Adrashi Insan Say Otar Tak’ written by Khadim Husain Soomro from Sindh Sufi Institute at the Lahore Press Club on Thursday.
Mr Zaman said we considered all languages spoken in Pakistan as national whereas Urdu was the linked language.
He said Punjab was tongueless as there was no appreciation for the Punjabi language by the establishment. He said a trend of labelling people as anti-state elements had been prevalent for the last 50 years, which was wrong.
Many people, he said, could have a difference of opinion about G M Syed’s style of politics, but it was a fact that he was a great scholar.
He said Sufis throughout the annals of the history had nothing to do with the establishment rather they had always been anti-establishment.
Farrukh Suhail Goindi said the misunderstanding should be removed between Punjab and Sindh.
Qazi Javed said the book was a research work and more such literary work should be done.
Mustafa Qureshi said G M Syed was the true representative of Sindh. He said in Sindh a lot of work had been done on Sindhi culture and language, but a little work had been done on Punjabi culture and language.
Ahmad Saeed Kirmani said G M Syed was the Sir Syed of Sindh.
