KARACHI, March 20: A large number of people belonging to the Hindu community on Tuesday demanded of the government to lift the ban imposed on Al-Rasheed Trust immediately so that it could resume its social welfare programme.
They had gathered at the Karachi Press Club and held a demonstration in support of the social welfare organisation which had been taking care of them.
They said that Al-Rasheed Trust had extended full assistance to them and the trust was working for the betterment of the humanity and poor people without any discrimination.
They said that the trust had started a housing scheme for the poor members of the Hindu community in Badin. The trust also extended all kinds of help on a regular basis, particularly during the rainy season. The trust provided plastic sheets, food, tents, medical facilities etc, they added.
They said that the trust was also providing assistance to a large number of widows, orphans and other needy people across the country and its volunteers were always in the forefront carrying out social welfare work whenever the country faced any disaster — like the earthquake in the Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir where the trust’s work was appreciated even by General Musharraf.
The demonstrators were carrying banners with their demands inscribed on them and were chanting slogans in support of their demands.
