Uplift projects yet to be completed
JHANG, March 20: The buildings department is lagging far behind the stipulated schedule in completing various development schemes passed by the district council.
A handout issued by the district nazim’s office said that an amount of Rs140 million had been released to the department during the current fiscal year. The department has so far utilised only Rs66 million although the year is drawing close to the completion.
This amount was to be spent on the construction of buildings, mostly in the health and education sectors. A total 39 schemes had been sanctioned that were to be completed during the current fiscal year. Of these only 10 schemes have so far been completed and there is a remote possibility that the remaining schemes could be completed within the stipulated period.
Taking a strong notice of the slow pace of work, the Jhang district nazim has directed officials of the buildings department to make all out efforts to ensure the completion of remaining schemes in time.
A district government source said the district nazim warned the officials of stern disciplinary action if they failed to complete development schemes.
STRIKE: Lawyers continued to boycott the courts for the 10th consecutive day on Tuesday to protest the filing of reference against the apex court chief justice.
A general house meeting was also held in the new barroom followed by a procession which marched up to the press club to show solidarity with the hunger-striking journalists.
Meanwhile, former ambassador and PPP (P) central leader Begum Abida Hussain, in a telephonic conversation with the bar president, has expressed her solidarity with the agitating lawyers.
KILLED: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries on Tuesday in a road accident near Chak 125 Janobi, Chiniot.
Reports said that Allah Rakha, Saifullah and Muhammad Ahmed were standing along the road when a speeding car (FLF-1465) ran them over. Allah Rakha died on the spot while the two others received serious injuries.
