Powerloom workers continue strike

TOBA TEK SINGH, March 23: Powerloom workers of Kamalia continued strike on Friday after talks between their association leaders and owners remained inconclusive. The district labour officer arranged a meeting between the two sides where representatives of both the associations presented their point of view. The workers demanded Re1 per metre wage while the owners were ready to raise it by four paisas only from 72 paisas per meter.

Source said another meeting between the owners and workers would be held on March 26 in the office of district labour officer.

CRIME: Former district council chairman Mian Sajidur Rehman has expressed concern over increase in crime in the villages of Kamalia.

He said at a press conference at Kamalia on Friday that it was not safe to travel even in daytime.

He criticised police for refusing to register cases. He asked police officers to take steps to check crime in the area.

Meanwhile, farmers held a protest demonstration outside Kamalia Press Club against rise in crime.

CASE REGISTERED: The Gojra city police registered on Friday a case against nine people, including four women, on the complaint of Gojra tehsil nazim on the charge of attacking and injuring two TMA inspectors and other staff.

According to the FIR, TMA officials were demolishing unlawfully built houses in Bihari Colony when the accused attacked and injured them.
