Imran, Aftab shine in semi-final

LAHORE, March 23: Fine knocks by Test opener Imran Farhat and Aftab Khan guided Habib Bank Limited (HBL) to qualify for final of the Patron’s Trophy One-day Cup by defeating PIA by 76 runs in the first semi-final at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday.

PIA won the toss and asked the bankers to bat first.

Imran scored 75 off 92 deliveries while Aftab cracked 65-ball 64 with the help of four boundaries and two sixes as the bankers accumulated 268 for loss of eight wickets in allotted 50 overs.

Imran, along with Test-discard Taufiq Umar gave HBL solid foundation by scoring 83 for the first wicket. Taufiq scored 39 with the help of six boundaries.

Off-spinner Tahir Khan grabbed four wickets. He conceded 52 runs in 10 overs and was a bit expensive.

Needing 265 to win, PIA were all out for 188 in 44.5 overs. Yasir Hameed was the only batsman who resisted the defeat by hitting 68 off 88 deliveries with seven boundaries and one six.

HBL will face National Bank of Pakistan in the final on Sunday.
