KARACHI, April 15: A fire broke out in Gulistan-i-Jauhar Telephone Exchange cabinet late on Saturday night rendering hundreds of landline telephone sets inoperative, confirmed a spokesperson of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited on Sunday.

People from the affected areas complained that their phone had gone out-of-order for several hours. Apart from making calls, the phone subscribers also faced difficulties while using internet.

A PTCL spokesman said unknown persons had set the Cabinet No.3 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar Telephone Exchange near Dashtiyar Apartments, which rendered the connections hooked to it inoperative.

The affected areas included Jauhar Complex, Ghazia Heights, Ojha Sanitarium, Shumail Complex, Dashtiyar Apartments and other parts in the vicinity.

The spokesperson said PTCL engineers were working on restoration of the facility and work was expected to complete by Monday.
