QUETTA, April 15: Nazims and members of various tehsils and union councils continued their protest on the third day on Sunday against illegal fishing by trawlers along the Makran coast.

The protesters blocked offices of the fisheries department in Gwadar, Pasni, Jewani and other areas.

They also staged sit-ins outside government offices.

They said the fisheries department had failed to stop illegal fishing by trawlers in the Balochistan coastal waters despite protests by local fishermen.

They said huge trawlers and vessels from Karachi and even from abroad were freely fishing in the Balochistan waters.

“We have informed officials of fisheries and other departments concerned but no action has so far been taken against such trawlers,” Gwadar Tehsil Nazim Majid Sorabi told Dawn on phone.

The protesting nazims and councillors alleged that trawlers from Karachi and other areas were fishing in the Balochistan waters in connivance with the authorities of the fisheries and other departments.
