Karachi, April 19: Capital City Police Officer Azhar Ali Farooqui directed on Thursday the Anti-car Lifting Cell (ACLC) to install modern mechanical spike barriers at all the exit and entry points of the city to puncture the tyres of vehicles suspected of being snatched or stolen in order to thwart an attempt by the criminals to flee the city with the vehicle.
According to a police spokesman, the city police chief also directed the ACLC to set up permanent computerised check posts on National Highway, Super Highway and RCD Highway which should work round the clock.
The CCPO issued these directives while presiding over a meeting in the office of the SSP of ACLC, Sanaullah Abbasi.
The ACLC officials told the police chief that owing to effective measures, the incidents of car snatching and theft had decreased and 60 per cent of such vehicles were recovered within short time after the crime was committed.
Mr Farooqui also instructed the ACLC officials to launch a drive for creating awareness among citizens for the installation of alarm lock, steering lock and ignition lock systems in their vehicles.
