Lawyers' movement to take new turn on April 24: Lawyers convention told KARACHI, April 22 (PPI) - Ongoing lawyers' movement would take a new turn on April 24 as Pakistan Bar Association decided to disclose names of those, “who illegally detained Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for five hours in President Camp Office and misbehaved with him”. This was announced in Sindh Lawyers Convention held here at Sindh High Court with Vice Chairman Sindh Bar Council Amin Lakhani in the chair. Former Judges of Supreme Court and High Courts including Fakharuddin G Ibrahim, Nasir Aslam Zahid, Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, Mujeebullah Siddiqui, Zahid Qurban Ali, Vice Chairman PBC Ali Ahmed Kurd, President Supreme Bar Association Munir Malik, President SHC Bar Association Abrar Ahmed, President Karachi Bar Association Iftikhar Javeed Qazi, office-bearers and representatives of lawyers' bodies and scores of lawyers across the province attended the convention. The convention unanimously decided that lawyer's movement would continue till its logical end. It decided to observe complete strike of courts proceeding on April 24, 2007 on hearing of Presidential Reference against CJP before Supreme judicial Council in Islamabad, hold protest demonstration, and take out rallies across the country, where copies of the reference would be burnt to register contempt for its contents. Speakers appreciated the judges for attending the reception in honor of CJP and stated that by attending bar reception in Hyderabad and Peshawar they had proved that Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was still CJP. 51 killed as Somalia fighting rages MOGADISHU, April 22, (AFP) - At least 51 people were killed Sunday as clashes between Ethiopian forces and Islamist insurgents raged in the Somali capital, bringing the toll to more than 219 after five days of fighting. 50 dead in new day of carnage in Iraq BAGHDAD, April 22, (AFP) - Insurgents killed 50 people in a new day of carnage in Iraq on Sunday, including 23 members of a Yazidi minority dragged from a bus and gunned down by the roadside, security officials said. Iraq's Yazidi minority community members were ambushed near Mosul, police Brigadier General Mohammed el-Waqa'a said. “Workers were travelling back from a textile plant in Mosul to their home in Bashika, east of the city,” he said. “Several gunmen stopped the buses, chose the Yazidi among the passengers and killed them in front of everybody”. Police said a group of cars blocked the road in the Al-Nur neighbourhood in the east of the city, while others set up a cordon to protect the gang that stormed the convoy. Four US soldiers killed in Iraq BAGHDAD, April 22, (AFP) - Insurgents killed four more US soldiers and another soldier died in and around the Iraqi capital, taking to 60 the military's losses for this month alone, the military reported on Sunday. Israel kills 9 Palestinians in weekend violence NABLUS, West Bank, April 22, (REUTERS) - Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians, at least five of them militants, over the weekend, in the most serious flare-up of Israeli-Palestinian violence for months. Afghan blasts, ambush kill 17 KHOST, Afghanistan, April 22, (AFP) - Two bomb blasts killed 11 people in Afghanistan's eastern city of Khost Sunday, while five Taliban fighters rebels and a policeman died in a battle elsewhere, officials said. The deadliest explosion was caused by a suicide bomber, wearing police uniform and riding a motorcycle, who detonated his explosives in a busy meat market in Khost, provincial deputy intelligence director Mira Jan told AFP. Pakistan music shops blown up PESHAWAR, Pakistan, April 22, 2007 (AFP) - A homemade bomb blew up three video and music shops in a market in Swabi where hardliners believe the businesses are un-Islamic, police said Sunday. The blast happened late Saturday in Swabi, about 100 kilometers northeast of Peshawar.“It destroyed one shop and partially damaged two others, but there were no casualties as the market was closed,” local police chief Fazal Elahi Badshah told AFP. The blast occurred in the Gulzada Market which has some 80 shops of CDs, DVDs, tape recorders and also houses groups of bands usually hired to perform in wedding ceremonies, residents said. Strong earthquake in southern Chile, 10 missing SANTIAGO, April 22 (Reuters) At least 10 people were missing on Saturday after a strong 6.2 mgnitude earthquake in southern Chile caused power cuts, landslides and large waves off the nation's Pacific coast, authorities said. Pilot killed as US Navy jet crashes at South Carolina air show MIAMI, April 22 (AFP) A pilot with the US Navy's Blue Angels aerobatics team died on Saturday when his F-18 fighter jet crashed to the ground during an air show in South Carolina, officials said. Syrians begin voting for new parliament DAMASCUS, April 22 (AFP) welve million Syrians vote on Sunday in the first of two days of parliamentary elections that banned opposition parties said they will boycott. The elections will be the second since President Bashar al-Assad came to power in July 2000. Some 2,500 candidates are in the field, the official SANA news agency said on Saturday. Originally it said there were 9,000, and did not explain the discrepancy. Of the 250 seats, 167 are reserved for the ruling National Progressive Front (NPF) coalition, led by Assad's Baath party.
