By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, May 1: A woman, whose son died in police custody here on Tuesday, demanded an impartial inquiry. Bashiran Bibi, protesting along with her other family members in front of jail, alleged that her son Arshad was tortured to death.

She told reporters that Farooqabad police had registered an abduction case against her son and that he had been in police custody for the last nine months.

The jail staff, she further alleged, had placed restrictions on her for meeting her son at the behest of the opponents.

She claimed that her son was tortured to death in reprisal when she moved a local court for lifting of the restriction.

When contacted, the jail authority said that the superintendent had gone to perform Umrah.

While other staffers claimed that accused Arshad, who had been in jail hospital for the treatment of asthma for the last few days, died after he accidentally fell from his bed.
