CM meets lawyers in Sargodha

SARGODHA, May 1: Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi met a local group of lawyers at the residence of MNA Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema during his visit to Sargodha on Tuesday.

However, most of the lawyers were either those recruited recently as junior prosecutors by the government or some former bar presidents.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister asked the lawyers to frustrate the evil designs and political-motivated move of some people working for their vested interests. He urged them to cooperate with the government in upholding the supremacy of law.

The chief minister later inaugurated the newly-constructed four roads in the city, including Shahrah-i-General Pervez Musharraf, Shahrah-i-Shujaat Husain and Shahrah-i-Fatima Jinnah.

He assured the people that the Punjab government would extend more funds for the uplift of Sargodha.

During a luncheon later at Qasr-i-Sultan, the chief minister met various delegations and expressed his satisfaction over the proper utilisation of a Rs3.5 billion grant for the construction of roads.

The chief minister also opened the admin block of the University of Sargodha constructed with an expenditure of Rs20 million.

He assured the vice-chancellor that the remaining 50 acres of land for medical and agriculture colleges would soon be transferred to the university. He also announced Rs200 million grant for the construction of sports complex besides provision of state land for the housing society of teachers.

The chief minister also pledged to provide Rs100 million for the DHQ Hospital which has been upgraded to the teaching hospital. He said two Rescue 1122 centres were also being established in Sargodha at a cost of Rs160 million which would help curb crime.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of Journalists Colony and also announced Rs1.5 million special grant for the Sargodha Press Club.

He directed District Coordination Officer Amjad Warraich to monitor the whole process and complete it in a short span of time.

Press Club Secretary Shaheen Farooqi presented a charter of demand, including group insurance for journalists’ children for marriage and education besides free medical treatment to their families.

Meanwhile, a group of lady councillors and leaders of PML women wing expressed their displeasure for ignoring them during the visit of the chief minister.
