Irrigation from Hadiara drain may be banned

By Amjad Mahmood

LAHORE, May 3: In a bid to prevent any environmental and health disaster, district authorities will meet here on Monday (May 7) to formulate some strategy for checking the use of Hadiara drain water for irrigation.

Officials of environment, agriculture, irrigation and solid waste management departments, Wasa, TMOs of Wagah and Nishtar towns and nazims of the union councils located along the Hadiara drain will attend the meeting to frame a joint strategy.

As a first step, a campaign will be launched to create awareness among the farmers using the drain water for irrigating their lands and milkmen whose milch animals are fed by the fodder grown on these fields.
