MUZAFFARGARH, May 16: The Supreme Court has taken a suo motu action on the death of four girls in a wall collapse in the Government Girls’ Primary School, Ghulwan, Alipur.

Acting chief justice Rana Bhagwandas has called the Punjab education secretary and Muzaffargarh district coordination officer on May 21 with a report on the incident.

Nursery class students Muneeza Bashir, Arifa Bashir, Tabasum Zahra and Rabia Hasnain were killed on May 3 when the wall collapsed on them. Later, the DCO set up an inquiry committee which has completed the task.

ACCIDENT: Five members of Nawabzada Mansoor Khan’s family suffered injuries in an accident near Khanewal on Wednesday.

The son of Nawabzada Mansoor, Bilal, his nephew Ahsan Khan and three other family members were coming to Muzaffargarh from Lahore by a car when another car hit theirs.

The injured were admitted to the DHQ hospital and were reportedly out of danger.

SUICIDE: A father of six allegedly committed suicide because of prolonged poverty and unemployment in Basti Bhattian on Jhang Road.

Abdul Ghafoor has been searching for a job for a long time. His family said he visited MPAs and MNAs, including two state ministers, but no one helped him get a job.

On Wednesday, he hanged himself with a rope tied to a ceiling fan.

Police have handed over the body to his family.

DARUL AMAN: The Darul Aman here has been working without any superintendent for the last three months as its newly appointed superintendent Fakhra Yasmeen has not taken charge of the office because the Punjab government has given her additional charge of Social Welfare Officer of Mayo Hospital, Lahore.

Ms Yasmeen was transferred to Muzaffargarh in February.

An official said she pressurised the district social welfare officer here to prepare documents and send her salary to Lahore which he refused. Later, social welfare secretary Shoaib Bin Aziz telephoned the officer to prepare the salary but he again refused.

When contacted, Ms Yasmeen said she was not the only officer who has not taken charge of the office.

She said 25 others social welfare officers from Lahore and other big cities have refused to take charge in small cities.

She claimed that of 25 social welfare officers appointed as superintendents of Darul Amans, five have got their transfer orders cancelled. She was also trying to get her transfer cancelled, she added.

The social welfare secretary could not be contacted for his comments.
