KARACHI, May 25: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has pledged that the May 12 incidents would be probed at a high level and in a transparent manner. Talking to a delegation, led by a former chief justice of the Supreme Court, Justice (r) Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui, at the Governor’s House on Friday, he held out the assurance that the entire province, particularly Karachi, would be made free of illegal arms with the cooperation of political parties.

The governor recounted the measures taken by the provincial government and the Karachi administration for safety and security of citizens, arguing that no government would risk spoiling its image, particularly when it had done a lot for peace and welfare over a period of four years.

He observed that the government had succeeded in foiling the designs of those who were behind the disturbances in the city.

The governor told the delegation that Pakistan was pursuing two major goals – economic progress and end to terrorism – and Karachi’s significance in achieving these goals was very clear. “That’s why, the anti-state elements are bent upon destroying peace and harmony in Karachi.”

Dr Ibad referred to his series of visits and meetings with leaders of various political parties in recent days, and said the outcome was encouraging. He expressed his confidence that his efforts for peace and harmony in Karachi would meet success.

Members of the delegation said that Karachi belonged to every citizen of Pakistan and the city’s progress was the progress of the country. “Therefore, it’s necessary that every citizen works towards maintaining a congenial atmosphere in the city as this would ensure continuous growth of our national economy.”
