ISLAMABAD, May 31: Imam of Kaaba Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais said on Thursday that Islam did not allow acts of terrorism, and stressed the need for Muslims to resolve their differences through mutual understanding and in fraternal spirit.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at the Prime Minister’s House, Sheikh Al-Sudais said that progress and development of Muslims depended on their adherence to moral values of Islam, mutual love and tolerance.

Both the Imam and the prime minister made brief statements but did not take questions.

Informed sources said that the Saudi dignitary had informed the protocol officer that he would not respond to any question about the Lal Masjid and Jaamia Hafsa issue.

He said not only Pakistan and Saudi Arabia but the entire Muslim world was parts of one body that could face the enemies of Islam only through unity, cooperation and understanding.

He said the Muslims were facing serious challenges and these could only be overcome with mutual cooperation and unity.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz welcomed the Imam of Kaaba and described his visit as the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

He said the way the people of Pakistan had greeted the Imam-i-Kaaba spoke of their deep love for the holy land.

The prime minister said that Pakistan was a citadel of Islam and a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Al Sudais said he was overwhelmed by the welcome and love he received from the people of Pakistan.

He said he had brought with him a message of love and good wishes from the Saudi King and the people.
