LONDON, June 13: Imran Khan of Tehrik-i-Insaaf who is visiting the UK these days has levelled four serious charges against Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Altaf Hussain which include terrorist activities leading to the May 12 events in Karachi, incitement to violence, money laundering and torture.

Speaking at a press conference, a guarded Imran Khan said his lawyers have moved the Scotland Yard to immediately conduct investigations of these charges, evidence of which, he said, has been provided to the Yard.

According to Mr Khan the money laundering charge was most likely to be taken up on a priority basis as his lawyers have provided enough evidence to the Yard and expected the Yard to conduct investigations into it before the evidence gets lost or becomes outdated.

He said as a result of his efforts to bring Mr Hussain to book who, according to him, faces as many as 234 cases of different nature, many victims of Altaf Hussain and his MQM have approached him with evidence of serious nature.

“I have asked my lawyer to write to the Scotland Yard to immediately start a criminal investigation into the activities of Hussain. My lawyers have done that today. They have lodged a formal complaint against Hussain and asked that a criminal investigation be started immediately. My lawyers have identified at least four areas of criminal activity that the police would investigate. They are Terrorist activity relating to events of May 12; incitement to violence, money laundering, and torture,” added Imran Khan.

He said as Mr Hussain is a UK citizen and lives in London, “it is the clear responsibility of the UK police to ensure that a comprehensive investigation takes place into all of Hussein’s activities as soon as possible.”

He said his hope in the British police system was not misplaced and that he was confident that the cases and allegations would get thorough investigation.

“Rest assured that we will follow this right to the end. The first step is for the English police to take up their responsibility and start the investigation before any evidence is lost or hidden. I look forward to a successful outcome,” he added.
