PESHAWAR, June 22: A prayer leader on Friday announced a $1 million reward for anyone killing Salman Rushdie and awarded the title of Amirul Momineen (chief of the faithful) to Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

Addressing a protest demonstration at Chowk Yadgar, Mohabat Khan Mosque’s Imam Maulana Yousaf Qureshi criticised the British government for knighting Salman Rushdie.

He said that Pakistan and other Muslim countries should sever diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom.

Ahl-i-Sunat Waljamaat: The Ahl-i-Sunat Waljamaat organised a demonstration in front of the Peshawar Press Club against the British government’s decision. MPA Ibrahim Qasmi led the rally.

The protesters demanded a ban on British products and severing of diplomatic ties with UK.
