SWABI, Aug 30: Residents and shopkeepers organised a protest demonstration against excessive and unscheduled loadshedding in Swabi district on Thursday.

The Shopkeepers’ Association also held a protest meeting in the Zaida market.

Addressing participants of the meeting, representatives of the shopkeepers said that prolonged loadshedding had crippled their routine work and despite long power outages they received ‘inflated’ utility bills.

The residents of Kalu Khan and its suburbs also staged a demonstration and blocked the Swabi-Mardan road for more than an hour to protest against continued loadshedding.

The protesters chanted slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Corporation (Pesco).

They said the people of the area were subjected to excessive loadshedding despite the fact that Tarbela Dam and Ghazi Brotha dam were located in the area.

They said they would resort to tough measures if the problem was not resolved soon.
