KARACHI, Nov 7: The 26th National Chess championship which has returned to the metropolis after a lapse of 14 years will be staged at a local hotel from Nov 23. The last time the city played host to the country’s premier championship of the game was in 1993.

The championship is being held under the aegis of Sindh Chess Association.

According to the format, the event consists of 11 rounds – seven Swiss rounds and four knockout concluding rounds. Each round will be spread over four hours. Two rounds will be conducted every day.

Master Tanveer Gilani of Wapda will defend his crown.

Meanwhile, matters pertaining to organising the event were finslised at a joint meeting of Sindh Chess Association and organising committee the other day.
