Lawyers slam judges’ eviction

Published December 5, 2007

LAHORE, Dec 4: The Lahore High Court Bar Association has condemned the government for notifying the withdrawal of official residences of the judges who did not take oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO).

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, LHCBA Secretary General Sarfraz Cheema said the government’s tactics could not shake the resolve of the judges, who had refused oath to serve the country and the constitution. He added the nation stood by the judges, and their silence should be seen as the lull before the storm.

He welcomed the meeting between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Chief Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto, saying that lawyers expected from both leaders that they would plan their strategy in accordance the aspirations of people.
