HYDERABAD, Dec 6: The EDO education Hyderabad suspended high school teacher Buland Iqbal here on Thursday in the wake of a corporal punishment case at Govt Boys Himayatul Islam High school in Tilak Incline.
EDO education Prof. Anwar Siddiqui has also issued a show cause notice to the school headmaster for not reporting the higher authorities about the incident.
“Yes, he has been suspended and asked to report to his directorate,” Anwar Siddiqui told Dawn.
He said the headmaster, Syed Mahfooz, has been asked to explain why an action should also not be taken against him for not reporting the incident that occurred on Nov 21.
The EDO said that an inquiry committee would be formed on Friday to further probe into the matter.
He said that he had asked the headmaster to be in touch with the boy’s family and financial help would be offered to the family if required. He said the headmaster had already made such offer to the family.
The teacher, Buland Iqbal, told Dawn that like other students, he only gave ‘mild punishment’ to Mudassar for not doing homework.
“I didn’t use stick and only slapped him, not in a harsh manner,” he claimed.
According to the headmaster, the boy’s parents met him on Nov 26 while the incident took place on Nov 21.
The headmaster maintained that he had recorded the statement of the teacher and removed him from that class till a final decision in the matter.
He said the classmates of Mudassar have told him that the teacher had beaten the student.
The boy has been admitted in Surgical Unit-3 of Liaquat University Hospital.
According to the doctor his condition was stable.
He has been operated upon twice for his intestinal surgery since Nov 21.
