KARACHI, Dec 7: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement launched its election campaign on Friday by announcing its candidates who would contest the January 8 general elections from various national and provincial assembly seats in Sindh.

In Karachi, the party fielded candidates on all the 20 national assembly and 42 provincial assembly seats.

The names of the party’s candidates from all over Sindh were announced by MQM chief Altaf Hussain in his telephonic address from London to a general workers’ meeting held here at the Jinnah Ground and relayed to other cities and towns of the province.

A large number of party workers, including women activists, attended the programme.

Also, in Karachi, the MQM did not give tickets to former federal ministers and MNAs Shamim Siddiqui, Safwanullah and Aamir Liaquat Hussain, Nawab Mirza advocate, Kanwar Khalid Younus, Abid Ali Umang, Akhlaq Hussain Abidi, Israrul Ibad, former provincial ministers and MPAs Qamar Mansoor, Mohammad Hussain, ex-MPAs Shakir Ali, Abdul Quddus, Idrees Siddiqui, Hameeduz Zafar and some others.
