Passengers kidnapped, driver shot dead

By Our Correspondent

PARACHINAR, Dec 7: Tension mounted in Kurram Agency after armed men attacked a coach in Sadda bazaar on Friday, killing its driver. They also kidnapped several men and women.

Sources said the deceased and the kidnapped people belonged to the Turi tribe.

Following the incident, rival factions blocked main roads in the agency and security forces were put on alert.

Sectarian clashes which erupted in the region on Nov 16 left more than 100 people dead and 300 others wounded.

There was no information about the situation in Parachinar because the telephone service in the area is not functioning. The town has been under curfew for some time.

The sources said that the coach was going from Parachinar to Peshawar when it was attacked. The driver died in the firing and the assailants took the passengers away. Four truck drivers are also reported to have been kidnapped.
