LAHORE, Dec 12: The convener of the All Parties Democratic Movement, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, said on Wednesday the new army chief was in a better position to restore the pre-Nov 3 situation in the country, as being demanded by most of the political parties.

Talking to Dawn, he said the unconstitutional steps taken on Nov 3, including the proclamation of a state of emergency, suspension of the Constitution, and removal of dozens of judges of the superior courts, had been ordered by an army chief and a man of the same rank was now in a position to reverse these measures.

He was asked who could meet the demands of the APDM and restore the pre-Nov 3 situation.

He proposed a dialogue between the ‘representatives of dictatorship and democratic forces’ to find a solution to the prevailing crisis ‘that threatens the very integrity of the country’.
