LARKANA: PPP’s cover candidates not to withdraw papers: Khuhro

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Dec 15: The Pakistan People’s Party had decided that its cover candidates would not withdraw nomination papers and their agents would sit in the polling stations to keep an eye on the polling process, said party leader and former leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Saturday.

Mr Khuhro who is contesting for PS-36 (Larkana-II) said at a press conference at his residence that the candidates’ agents would keep a close watch on the polling process and report back if they noticed any anomaly. He said that party certificates for four national and eight provincial assembly seats in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts had been submitted to the returning officers concerned.

Mr Khuhro evaded question when asked when would Ms Benazir Bhutto withdraw her nomination papers for NA-204 (Larkana-I) and disclosed that now Ms Benazir Bhutto, Nazeer Ahmed Bughio, Shahid Bhutto and Aamir Magsi would contest for NA-207 (Larkana-IV), NA-205 (Larkana-II), NA-204 (Larkana—I) and NA-206 (Larkana-III), respectively.

He said that the election commission was incomplete and dependent and stressed that PPP wanted the commission to act rather than just take notice of violations of its rules.

He termed the caretaker set-up a continuation of previous governments which were still providing PML (Q) candidates official protocol. The commission had still not stuck off the 6,000 bogus votes registered in Ms Benazir Bhutto’s constituency, and corrected duplication of names, he said.

Mr Khuhro accused Karachi city nazim and Ghotki district nazim of leading election campaign of the PML (Q) and MQM candidates in contravention to relevant rules.

He said that Ms Ghinwa Bhutto, Mumtaz Bhutto and Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim were conspiring against PPP but their true faces would soon be unmasked.

WITHDRAWALS: Jamaat-i-Islami’s candidates Muhammed Ashique Dhamraho and Shamasuddain Abbasi on Saturday withdrew their nomination papers for NA-204 and PS-36 under party decision.
