PPP candidate stopped from filing papers

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 15: A Pakistan People’s Party candidate was severely beaten up on Saturday morning to prevent him from submitting his nomination papers from Dera Bugti.

Mir Ghulam Qadir Bugti, father of Sarfaraz Bugti, told Dawn that his son was thrashed allegedly by the intelligence agencies as they wanted Tariq Hussain, a PML-Q candidate, to be elected unopposed from PB-24 seat of the Balochistan Assembly.

He said an arm of his son was fractured while his proposer and seconder, who were accompanying him, also received injuries.

He said Sarfaraz Bugti, who was stopped near Doli check-post, close to the Punjab-Balochistan border and then beaten up, was taken to Rojhan Mazari and abandoned at a deserted place with a warning that he should not try to enter Dera Bugti again.

Qadir Bugti alleged an intelligence agency had picked up his son on Nov 18 and handed him to police after four days.
