MIRPURKHAS, Dec 16: The murder of son of an office-bearer of Muttahida Qaumi Movement by bandits sparked violent protests in many parts of the city on Sunday.
Armed bandits killed Mohammad Iqbal Abbasi, 22, son of joint zonal in-charge of MQM Shahid Abbasi, when he resisted their attempt to snatch his motorcycle.
The bandits drove away with the motorcycle after killing Iqbal. He died on the spot and his body was moved to Civil Hospital for autopsy.
When the news of his murder reached his friends and supporters, they resorted to aerial firing and forced shopkeepers to close down their business in many parts of the city.
They also beat up some shopkeepers when they refused to shut down their shops. Enraged youths also ransacked some shops leading to closure of bazaars and markets.
Police took into custody some suspects after cordoning off the areas and started checking of vehicles at entry and exit points.
ARREST: Police arrested driver of a truck, which was loaded with railway scrap worth thousands of rupees near Old Khipro bus stand late on Saturday night.
When the police stopped the truck four accused Rahim Panhwar, Mohram Panhwar, Qaisar Panhwar and Gul Hassan Panhwar managed to escape jump down from the truck and escape.
Police arrested the driver and lodged a case against him and four of his accomplices.
SUICIDE: A man committed suicide by shooting himself near Nawabshah railway crossing on Sunday, reportedly over some domestic problems.
The body of Mohammad Iqbal Leghari, 40, son of Nabi Bux Laghari, was moved to Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital and was handed over to relatives after post mortem.
