PESHAWAR, Dec 19: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has said that despite misuse of state resources, the King’s party (PML-Q) and its regional allies will fail to win the general elections scheduled for Jan 8, because they are the supporters of dictatorship.

Speaking at a news conference here at the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan, a candidate for NA-3, Peshawar-III, said the King’s party was using state machinery and influencing district nazims to make pre-poll rigging across the country.

Dr Alamgir, who is the PPP provincial information secretary, said the PPP leadership had been identifying the loopholes in the election process, but neither the election commission of Pakistan nor the government was paying any heed to their complaints. He said: “PPP will not accept rigged elections”.

He welcomed Arbab Khizer Hayat Khan, who resigned from Pakistan Muslim League-N and joined the PPP. He said the PPP was the only national party which had supporters in the four provinces, northern areas and Azad Kashmir.

He alleged PML-Q and its allies had hoodwinked the people in the name of development. The political workers, he said, knew that which party had worked for the masses during its tenure in the power.

He said the PPP had gained political support here and had emerged as a major political force in the Peshawar district.

Despite many hurdles, Dr Alamgir said, the PPP had decided to contest the elections to stop the way of anti-people force coming into power. He said the PPP would not allow pre-poll, during-the-polling and post-poll rigging in any part of the country.

He hoped that security forces and election staff would foil all negative plans of rigging.

He said it was the prime duty of political workers and election monitoring teams to remain vigil on the polling day.

Also at the occasion, the PPP Peshawar president, Isar Khan Naheqi said all the exploitative forces had ganged up against the PPP in the elections, but poor people of Pakistan would vote for the PPP nominees in the upcoming elections.

“A free, fair and transparent election and peaceful transfer of power to the successful party has been a demand of the PPP, but it will not accept rigging of elections”, he added.

He asked the people to cast their vote in favour of the PPP candidates as it was the only option with them to oust inept and corrupt people from power.
