LAHORE, Dec 26: Tehrik-i-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan says the elections being held under the PCO lack legal cover.
Speaking at a press conference after a two-day meeting of the party’s central executive committee here on Wednesday, he said the political parties were taking part in the polls under the same doctrine of necessity which, when applied by the superior courts, had been a target of criticism by the politicians.
Appealing to the masses to side with the superior court judges deposed in the Nov 3 action of Gen Musharraf, he said the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would hold meetings across the country to mobilize people for election boycott.
He said the alliance would observe the polling day as black day while a proposal was under consideration to give a strike call on the occasion.
Khan said his party would continue supporting the struggle launched by the deposed judges, lawyers, media and civil society for the restoration of democracy and free judiciary and media.
He condemned the loss of life in the increasing wave of terrorism and demanded an end to the army operation going on in Bajaur, Waziristan, Swat, Malakand, Balochistan and other areas of the country.
Meanwhile, the PTI has decided to institute its students’ wing, Insaaf Students Federation. The Insaaf Youth Wing will meanwhile continue to work independently. A three-man committee has been formed to organize the students’ wing.
