HRCP rejects medical report

LARKANA, Dec 29: The general secretary of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Iqbal Haider, has demanded that the United Nations’ experts should investigate assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to journalists in Naudero where he came to offer condolence of Benazir Bhutto, Mr Haider said the HRCP would not accept the judicial commission for the probe as it was not independent. “We will not accept it,” he said.

When asked to comment on the Benazir’s medical report, Mr Haider termed the report ‘concocted and ridiculous’.

He said: “We hold President Pervez Musharraf responsible for this murder and it is pre-planned.” He added that now the government was giving it a cover.

He said under the present conditions there was no possibility of free and fair elections in the country as most of the political parties had withdrawn from it.

Calling for the postponement of elections and the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf and the caretaker government, he demanded installation of a neutral and independent election commission and formation of national government of consensus till the end of March.

He said a definite date for elections was necessary.

Mr Haider alleged that government had failed on many fronts as it could not protect Ms Benazir Bhutto and army personnel were being killed in Waziristan and people are insecure.

He said the government could have protected the vehicle of Benazir Bhutto. He criticized rulers for not containing terrorism.
