EU extends dumping duty on local lamp

Published January 13, 2008

KARACHI, Jan 12: The European Union Commission (EC) has extended a definitive anti-dumping duty of 66.1 per cent for one year on import of integrated electronic compact fluorescent lamp (CFL-i) from four countries, including Pakistan.

According to an information reaching the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) here on Saturday, this decision was a result of Pakistan-EU joint verification undertaken from April 12 to 18, 2005, that CFL-I exported by a Pakistani company M/s Ecopak Lighting was, in fact, of Chinese origin.

The above measures have been extended for another period of one year vide Council Regulation (No 1205/2007) and communicated to the government of Pakistan recently.

The definitive anti-dumping duty is imposed by the above regulation on import of electronic compact fluorescent discharge lamps functioning on alternative current, including electronic compact fluorescent discharge lamps functioning on both AC and DC, with one or more glass tubes, with all lighting elements and electronic components fixed to the lamp foot, or integrated in the lamp foot.—APP
