RAWALPINDI, Jan 22: Law-yers here on Tuesday called upon the civil society members and student organisations to join them in their rally on January 24 at Constitution Avenue to express solidarity with the deposed and detained judges.

They were speaking at the general body meeting of Rawalpindi Bar Association.

They said as per the decision of the High Court Bar Association they would gather at the Constitution Avenue and peacefully march towards the residence of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and registered their protest over the unconstitutional steps of November 3 by the present regime.

The lawyers vowed to continue their struggle until 1973 constitution was restored in its real form and an independent judiciary started functioning.

The speakers voiced their desire to hold regular protest rally at Constitution Avenue on every Thursday and would invite not only the members of the RBA but the civil society and students should also be invited for the peaceful demonstrations. The lawyers said they were united and continue their struggle for rule of law and independence of judiciary.

In a press released issued by former vice president Supreme Court Bar Association and senior lawyer Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry welcomed the decision of Punjab Bar Council that asked Pakistan Bar Council to review its January 14 decision about ending complete boycott of those judges who took fresh oath under Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) on Nov 3 last year.
