ATTOCK, Jan 22: District police will chalk out a security plan to provide protection to the observers of European Union (EU) during their visits to the district to monitor the election- related activities before and during the polls.

The decision was taken in a meeting of officials of the district administration with a two-member EU delegation led by Josef Hartl, security liaison officer EU’s Election Observation Mission at Pakistan.

The meeting held here on Tuesday was attended by District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Hanif Joyia and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Abdul Razzak Malik and other officials.

The EU’s official told the officials about details of visits of EU monitors and security requirements.

On the occasion, the DPO and DCO assured the EU’s delegation that a comprehensive security plan would made for the observers.

Besides security measures, the observers will be provided all facilities to their task smoothly, the officials said.

The officials said elite force would provide security to the observers and the mission would be requested to inform about their planned visits to the district.

The EU mission should also keep in contact with the district police, so that they are aware about any changes in the security plan and can review it as the need arises, the officials suggested to the delegation.

Talking to Dawn the delegation’s head Mr Josef said he was satisfied with the proposed security measures to be planned by the district administration and hoped it would use all the resources for the safety of the monitors.
