QUETTA, Jan 25: Security forces seized on Friday a large quantity of arms and ammunition from the Luni area of Duki tehsil in Loralai district, about 200 kilometres north of here.

“A huge cache of weapons and ammunition, including anti-aircraft guns, rocket launchers, rockets, anti-tank mines and grenades,” said an official.

Sources said the seizure was made during a search operation in the area. Sources said that a case was registered against owners of the place where weapons had been recovered from.

Security forces also recovered a huge quantity of drugs and arms from the Buleda area of Turbat district.

Sources said the Frontier Corps personnel raided a hideout of drug smugglers near the Pakistan-Iran border and recovered 1,250kg of hashish and 150kg of opium.

The FC personnel also found arms and ammunition at the place, including AK-47 rifles, sub-machine guns and several thousand rounds. No arrest was made as armed men guarding the drug consignment had escaped across the border.

“The drugs were likely to be smuggled to Iran,” sources said, adding that they had been brought from Afghanistan.
