KARACHI, Feb 5: The city government has decided to take strict measures to ensure an effective implementation of the ban on polythene bags in the city.

In this regard, the city government’s first class magistrates will take strict steps against the production, sale and use of polythene bags in all parts of the city.

The home department taking notice of choked drains due

to dumping of polythene bags had imposed a ban on the production, sale and use of polythene bags of less than 300 microns in the jurisdiction of the city government under section 144.

All the heads of police stations have also been ordered to take action against all those violating the law.

City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has directed EDO (Revenue) and all other revenue officials having powers of first class magistrate, to take action against production, sale and use of polythene bags without any discrimination.

The nazim said that the polythene bags were a major cause of environmental pollution.

He urged the citizens to stop using polythene bags as these were harmful to the city.—APP
