Noorur Rehman moves into quarters

KARACHI, Feb 6: Upcoming Noorur Rehman made it to the boys’ Under-15 singles quarter-finals on Wednesday by overcoming a stiff opposition from Uzair Abdul Qadir in a three-set duel of the Open Sindh ranking tennis championship at the DHA Sunset Club courts.

Noor dropped the opener 2-6 only to recover and inflict the table on his opponent by taking the next two sets 6-4, 7-8 (5).

Top seed Yasir Khan also propelled into the men’s singles last eight- stage by virtue of a walkover against Arshad Abrar. Second seed and Sindh No 1 Vinod Das, raced to beat Changez Hasan Khan 6-1, 6-1 to surge into the next round.

Men’s singles first round: Ali Imran bt Salman Ahmed 6-1,6-1; Vinod Das bt Changez Hassan Khan 6-1,6-1; Arshad Abrar w/o M. Naeem; M. Fahim Bhutto bt Naveed Anjum 6-2,2-6,6-9.

Pre quarter-finals: M. Abdul Saeed bt Qazi Zain 6-2, 6-2; Yasir Khan w/o Arshad Abrar.

Boys’ singles u-13 qualifying rounds (pro-set): Shahzaib bt Baber Muzzafer 8-0; Ahmed Majeed bt Zeeshan 8-5.

First round: Jahangir Khan bt Aqeel Hassan 8-6; Arslan Allawala bt Rabiuddin 8-6; Talha Zubair w/o Hamza Saeed; Shazaib bt Fraz Ahmed Faiz 8-5; Saeed Pervez w/o Murad Khan.

Boys’ u-15 pre quarter-finals: Noorur Rehman bt Uzair Abdul Qadir 2-6, 6-4, 7-8(5).
