Police disrupt APDM rally, arrest 25

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb 16: Police disrupted a rally of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and arrested 25 protesters on Saturday.

Enraged demonstrators set a police picket and two motorcycles ablaze, and damaged banks at the Jinnah road and the Kandahri bazaar.

Police fired teargas shells and baton-charged the protesters.

According to hospital sources, six people suffered injuries. They were discharged after treatment.

Workers and supporters of the APDM had taken out an anti-election rally from the office of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, which marched through various roads.

However, police intervened and prevented them from reaching the Manan Chowk where the protesters wanted to hold a public meeting.

They asked APDM leaders to disperse, at which participants of the rally turned violent and started pelting stones at the police. Police responded with baton-charge and fired teargas shells on the rally.

Over two dozen activists and supporters, including APDM provincial president Usman Kakar, were arrested. The clash continued for around two hours and traffic in different areas of the city remained suspended.
