Jayasuriya axed for WI tour

COLOMBO, Feb 19: Sri Lankan cricket selectors here on Tuesday dropped Sanath Jayasuriya for the tour of the West Indies starting next month and brought back left-arm fast bowler Thilina Thushara Mirando.

Jayasuriya, who has retired from Test cricket, still plays in one-day matches but the decision to leave him out of the tour in the Caribbean likely signals the end of the destructive left-handed opening batsman’s international career.

Sri Lanka play two Tests and three One-day Internationals against the West Indies during March-April.

Left-handed opener Upul Tharanga has been replaced by Michael Vandort while Malinda Warnapura is also picked.

Squad: Mahela Jayawardene (captain), Kumar Sangakkara, Michael Vandort, Malinda Warnapura, Thilan Samaraweera, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Chamara Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Ishara Amerasinghe, Thilina Thushara Mirando, Prasanna Jayawardene.—AFP
