PESHAWAR, Feb 26: The NWFP government has established a foreign security cell at the home department to look after security of foreign and local staff of NGOs working in earthquake-hit areas of the Hazara region, said a senior official.
The additional chief secretary of the NWFP, Ghulam Dastagir Akhter, told a donors’ conference in Abbottabad on Monday that the provincial government would provide foolproof security to international non-governmental organisations and other partners involved in reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the earthquake-affected area.
The Provincial Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency (Perra) had organised the conference, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.
Mr Akhter said the provincial government had directed the police department and other law-enforcement agencies to enhance security for expatriate and local staff of various organisations and their partners. He said Perra and partner organisations should evolve simple, specific and a feasible pro forma for sharing information regarding progress of schemes so as duplication of work can be avoided and monitoring and evaluation streamlined.
He gave one week for completion of the mechanism and said it should be circulated to partner organisations.
Earlier, Dr Fazalur Rehman, donor coordinator for Perra, expressed concern that a majority of organisations did not share information which affected monitoring and evaluation of work.
