DADU, Feb 26: District Nazim Karim Ali Jatoi has challenged the Pakistan People’s Party to table a no-confidence move against him and the taluka nazims of Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi and Dadu elected on the platform of Dadu Ittehad.

The district council of Dadu has 75 council members from 52 union councils, of them 17 were elected on the platform of ADP while 58 belonged to the Dadu Ittehad.

The electoral college of district nazim consisted of 575 councillors and 104 UC nazims and naib nazims elected in local bodies elections held in 2005.

Of this total strength, 225 councillors and 17 nazims and naib nazims belonged to ADP, while Dadu Ittehad Panel claims support of 436 councillors. However, ADP has majority in Dadu and Johi talukas while Dadu Ittehad panel holds sway in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas.

After reports of the proposed no-confidence move against the nazims of the district and four taluka, Mr Jatoi summoned a meeting of his supporters, including nazims, councillors and naib nazims, at his native village Betto Jatoi on Tuesday.

Except three members of Dadu Ittehad panel viz; Nazim of UC Shah Panjo, Naeem Soomro, Nazim of UC Chhore Qambar, Farman Chandio and woman council member Abida Solangi, all others attended the meeting.

After the meeting Mr Jatoi claimed that he had a two-thirds majority in the house, as 58 members were with him while only 17 were supporting the PPP-backed ADP.

PPP MNA-elect Rafique Ahmed Jamali had said that that a no-confidence move would be tabled against the district nazim of Dadu besides taluka nazims of Johi, Dadu, Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah. He claimed that a number of Dadu Ittehad Panel councillors had approached PPP leadership and extended their support.
