Navy sailors lead regatta

KARACHI, March 3: International Abdul Hameed and Najeebullah, both of Navy, are jointly leading an 11-boat fleet at the end of two races on the opening day of Laser Standard national championship in the open sea on Monday.

Both have amassed five penalty points apiece to share the lead. They are followed by twice Asian Games silver medallist in Enterprise, Mamoon Sadiq with six while Aamir Nawaz is lying third with seven.

M. Ashfaq, also of Navy, had a dismal run as he was disqualified in the first race for on the course side (OCS) better known as pre-mature start. However, in the next, he secured third place.

Hosts Navy has entered seven boats in the regatta while the rest are from the Army. PAF has not fielded their team. Two races will be sailed on Tuesday.

Results:

First race: 1-Amir Nawaz, 2-Mamoon Sadiq, 3-Najeebullah.

Second race: 1- Abdul Hameed, 2-Najeebullah, 3-M. Ashfaq.
