ISLAMABAD, March 3: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani met President Pervez Musharraf on Monday and discussed with him the ongoing operation against militants with special reference to the domestic and regional situation.

They also discussed in detail matters pertaining to internal security.

The army chief briefed the president on the ongoing operations against terrorism with particular reference to the deployment on internal security duties.

This was Gen Kayani’s first meeting with the president after the general election.

The ISPR had denied an earlier meeting between the two after the election as reported by the media quoting a source in the President’s House.

Although there was no official word on matters discussed at Monday’s meeting, it is widely believed that the army chief and the president had a frank discussion on the prevailing situation.

The president lauded the professionalism, devotion to duty and sacrifices being rendered by the army in safeguarding the country from external and internal threats.

He praised the role played the army in ensuring complete security during the election.
