KARAK: Rift deepens in Karak ANP

By Our Correspondent

KARAK March 19: The rift in district chapter of Awami National Party (ANP) resurfaced on Wednesday as its seven members tendered resignation from the basic membership of the party.

According to sources majority of ANP activists were unhappy over the party’s poor performance in the Feb 18 general elections in the district. The district cabinet also made some changes in the party ranks after the elections and sacked district general secretary Mansoor Khattak, accusing of campaigning for the rival candidate.

The candidates of ANP did not get more than 20 votes in the general polls even on the native polling stations of party’s provincial joint secretary Advocate Ahmad Farooq and other officer bearers including Waheed Ustad, Ilyas Ustad and Mohammad Farooq.

So far seven members of the party Lal Sadiq, Shaukat Ali, Sher Nawab, Zahoor Ahmad, Shad Ayaz, Aseel Rehman and Jamal Hamdard have resigned from the basic membership of the party, alleging that leadership was least bothered to promote party in the district.

The dissident group has decided to approach the central leadership of the party and inform it about the real position of all the district office bearers.

They said that very soon more workers would resign from the party as a protest and they would continue their struggle until the common workers get a respectable place in the party ranks.

They added that the unfavourable situation compelled them to resign. They said that some opportunists had occupied very important positions in the party.
