DADU, March 19: An assistant sub-inspector of police and four constables were suspended for illegally detaining a villager on Wednesday.

Dadu District Police Officer Manzoor Hussain Khatian ordered the suspension.

A labourer, Qamaruddin Qambrani, of village Phullo Qambrani, lodged a complaint with the regional director of provincial ombudsman in Dadu that he was returning home from Khudabad when assistant sub-inspector Ayaz Ali Bughio, constable Rustam Ali Shahani and three others of Khudabad police post detained him without any reason.

He said his mother Saran Qambrani reached police post Khudabad and requested the ASI to release him. But the policemen tortured his mother with kicks and punches and threatened that if Rs5,000 were not paid to them, her son would be implicated in false cases.

He said that the next day she paid Rs5000 and he was released from the illegal police detention after three days.

The regional director of provincial ombudsman in Dadu, Saeed Ahmed Mubejo, called SHO Dadu town Asghar Birhamani. Later the ASI returned back the money to the victim.

The ombudsman sent a complaint to the DPO Dadu for further action.

The Dadu DPO after meeting victims suspended the ASI and four constables for illegally detaining and torturing the villager.

Our Naushahro Feroze correspondent adds: A man found in illegal detention at police station Mehrabpur was set free on Wednesday.

Judicial Magistrate-II Kandiaro Altaf Hussain Dayro appointed as raid commissioner by the sessions judge Naushahro Feroze raided the police station and recovered Sarwar Ali, son of Rehmat Ali Rajput, who was detained illegally by police without making any entry in the record.

He was set free by the raid commissioner who directed SHO Mehrabpur Allah Wadhayo Pitafi and duty officer ASI Mohammad Juman Channar to appear before the sessions judge on March 24.

The detainee’s brother, Mohammad Sharif had filed an application in the court of sessions judge Naushahro Feroze.

KILLED: A man was killed and five others were injured in two separate incidents near Moro on Wednesday.

Ibrahim Solangi, 40, resident of Dad Wah, was crossing a road near Moro when a speedy car hit him as a result of which he died on the spot.
