SIALKOT, March 23: A fireworks manufacturer was killed while his teenaged daughter was injured in a blast while making fireworks in his house near Railway Road in Chawinda, some 30 kilometres from here, on Sunday.

Ghulam Muhammad, 55, was making fireworks in a room-cum-store of his house when firecrackers suddenly exploded, killing him on the spot.

His 15-year-old daughter Farzana sustained serious injuries and she was taken to Pasrur THQ Hospital in critical condition. The police are investigating.

RUN OVER: A five-year-old boy was run over by a speeding car near Phalora locality in Pasrur tehsil on Sunday.

Rehan Samar was standing on bus stop of Matteyki village when the car ran over him, killing him on the spot. The driver fled after abandoning his vehicle. The Phalora police are investigating.

CONFERRED: President Pervez Musharraf conferred prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz upon a local garments exporter, Ejaz A. Khokhar, on Sunday.

Khokhar is a former chairman of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association. Local businessmen have greeted the recipient.
