DURBAN, March 28: South Africa Test batsman Herschelle Gibbs was charged with drunk driving on Friday after spending the night in jail.

Gibbs’ lawyer Peter Whelan said the player had been stopped by police while driving in Cape Town on Thursday night.

“He (Gibbs) was pulled over and breathalysed,” Whelan said. “He has been charged with drunken driving and will appear in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on June 27.”

Whelan disputed media reports that Gibbs had been alone at the time he was stopped.—Reuters
