Four flour mills sealed

LAHORE, April 2: Four mills were sealed on Wednesday either for selling flour at more than the prices fixed by the City District Government Lahore or supplying less quantity than the agreed quota.

“Zeeshan, Safdar, Madina and Barkat flour mills have been sealed while warning issued to two others,” said district coordination officer Mian Ijaz while presiding over a meeting of special magistrates here.

He ordered that all exit points should be sealed and all goods transport vehicles be thoroughly searched to stop smuggling of wheat or flour out of the city.

Mian Ijaz ordered the special magistrates to monitor wheat supply to millers and flour output and submit a report on a daily basis in this regard.

Directing the food department officers to continue crackdown on hoarders and black marketers, he said the millers should supply 120,000 flour bags of 20 kg daily for sale in Lahore and at least 12,000 bags each should be made available at all the nine towns.

Earlier, the meeting was informed that 64 shopkeepers had been caught for selling flour at exorbitant prices while another 26 were nabbed on hoarding charges and a fine of Rs336,000 was imposed on them. The traders would be sent behind the bars for five days in case of default of fine payment.

Meanwhile, the DCO has summoned all the flour millers in Lahore in his office on Thursday (today) to discuss ways and means to ensure adequate supply of the commodity at reasonable price.
