UPPER DIR, April 8: The police foiled a terror bid and recovered huge quantity of explosives during a raid on a bakery here on Tuesday.
A police party, headed by SHO Niaz Mohammad, raided the Kashmir Bakery in Wari bazaar and reportedly recovered 59 kilograms of explosives, 48 kilogram balls bearings, 2,000 metres of wick, 325 bullets of 12-bore gun, 400 bullets of 30-bore pistol and 180 rods of dynamite, allegedly meant for suicide attacks.
Police arrested owner Rizwan and sent him to undisclosed location for interrogation. They also sealed the bakery.
The accused, sources in the police department said, had divulged that another bakery owner had allegedly trapped him by requesting to keep the explosives for some days at his shop and he didn’t know that there were explosives in the bags.
NWFP inspector-general of police has expressed satisfaction over the performance of the local police and has promised certificates and cash prizes for the police team, the sources claimed.
