LAHORE, April 15: The introduction of the Super Jack Pot (SJP) will be the chief attraction for race goers during the midweek day/night Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

Punters desirous of betting in the SJP will be required to nominate their fancied horses in the selected races, starting from the second to seventh race. The minimum ticket price is Rs100 only.

In order to generate public interest, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) has already announced to contribute Rs100,000 towards the SJP kitty and the total amount will be distributed among the winners, who successfully nominate all winners in the six SJP races.

Meanwhile, a competitive card of seven races has been drawn. The SJP races in particular have been loaded with many chance horses to make the task of solving the SJP difficult for the punters.

There have been many lucky punters in the past who solved it at the old Racecourse at Gulberg Road and hopefully there would be many more in the future too.

In all 95 acceptors have been left in after the scratching in seven races barring last-minute withdrawals. A total number of 87 horses will be taking part in the SJP races.

The feature event, the Jhelum Plate, class VI, division I to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres, has 14 runners. But only four attract attention on form and classification — Blue Fire, Ahsan The Great, Gold Round and Iconic should be fighting for the top honours. The first three have shown their form recently while Iconic has come down in the weighting scales considerably and is undoubtedly a better class filly. This will be the sixth race in the racing order.

The supporting and fifth race, the Jhelum Plate, class VI, division II gone over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres has 13

acceptors. Three out of them look on chance, namely, Bashayeash Prince, Murad King and Sharoon Prince. The first one, although a better pedigree horse, has not yet been tried.

Geo Bhakkar, Dream Land, Jageerdarni and Great Khan are the pick of the eight runners listed for the opener, the Jhelum Plate, class VI, division III to be contested over 1,000 metres.

Jageerdarni who has been tracking well, has yet to do something worth recommendation for the top slot. That leaves the other three to fight for the spoils.

Dimple, Hikmat and Great Rhythm look good in the eight drawn for the fourth race, the Jhelum Plate, class VI, division IV to be gone over 1,000 metres.

On handicap and form, Dimple seems

better at edging out the others. The dark bay filly was closely beaten the time last out and should be making amends this time by

winning the fourth race.

The first race will be held at 3.30pm.
