THATTA, April 30: National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza on Wednesday expressed hope that the coalition partners, Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N, would take wise decision on judges’ issue.

Talking to Dawn during a brief stay at Branch Mori en route to their hometown, Badin where party workers forced her and her spouse to stop to shower their love on the leaders, she said that she was confident the parties would sort the issue of judges amicably.

She believed the coalition partnership would continue and the people who had brought the party to power would see Benazir Bhutto’s dreams for the down-trodden being materialised. The prime minister had already announced a 100-day charter, which was in accordance with the vision of Benazir Bhutto, she said.

She said that she hoped that while tackling the issues of national importance the coalition partners would take into account the constitutional priorities and consensus of general public.

Her spouse, Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, who was in the driving seat of their limousine responded to questions about PPP’s patch-up with Muttahida Qaumi Movement and said that the party had agreed to accommodate the MQM as per rules and its share in government.

He said that the PPP would continue its policy of coordination with all the political parties, factions and national parties with an honest agenda in order to run the system smoothly, keep the institutions streamlined and redress the genuine grievances of people.

He said that PPP would always go for consensus on all contentious issues and would never forget to go shoulder to shoulder with all the political friends.

The couple was forced to stay for sometime on the Thatta-Badin highway by hundreds of PPP activists who were waiting for them for hours. They presented them Ajraks and Loongis before they left for Badin.

Our Badin correspondent adds: A large number of party activists accorded the illustrious couple a rousing welcome when they arrived in their hometown in a long motorcade.

Talking to journalists at Karo Ghunghro stop, Dr Fehmida assured that the government would fulfil the promises it had made with people and priority would be given to the provision of basic needs including “roti, kapra aur makan”.

She said that she believed in the independence of judiciary and a strong democracy.

Dr Zulfiqar said that his first priority was to improve law and order situation in the province. Police should change their attitude towards people and get their confidence by honest working. He warned that the government would not tolerate dacoit culture.
